This is a question we get a lot from the uninitiated. Some smokers have wondered why they would switch from something that grows naturally, to an e-Liquid substance they don't quite understand.
Well, first of all let's debunk the idea there's anything particularly naturally about the tobacco you smoke. First, it's really very bad for you, and second, it's usually heavily treated and processed with even more harmful stuff.
What's in your average e-Liquid then?
There are only two core ingredients really, two things that you're basically guaranteed to find in any e-Liquid. These are:
Propylene glycol (PG)
A colourless, lightly sweet tasting liquid. This synthetic organic compound is completely harmless, and is used in quite a lot of food manufacturing processes. You've probably seen it on any number of common ingredient lists as E1520.
Vegetable glycerine (VG)
Also a colourless, but slightly sweeter tasting liquid. Glycerol is even more widely used than propylene glycol. Produced from vegetable fats, it's used in food production, pharmaceuticals and much more. E422 by another name.
The balance of each used in an e-Liquid is what determines the various different attributes of vaping, from throat hit to flavour and vapour production. We'll get into that in another piece though.
The other elements of an e-Liquid are, very simply, nicotine (in e-Liquids containing nicotine, and this will always be clearly detailed on the product) and whatever the flavourings are.
High quality e-Liquids contain natural flavourings, which for the most part represent no known adverse health risks.
And that's about all there is to that!
